Wildlife: Land and Sky
Get up close and personal to some beautiful animals! All of the subjects are wild, although some may be working alongside humans like the Harris Hawk that was flying to and from a gloved hand and a perch for a falconry event.
The lizards of Hawaii can often be found around flowers actually enjoying the nectar of that very flower and are happy to look at the camera and smile!
Turkey vultures are almost a guarantee in the Northeast if you step outside as they are heavily populated and although people generally don't care for them, they are just as unique and fascinating as the rest of the animal kingdom. Getting up close and watching them do what they are designed to do is even humbling at times.
The albatross, which may look like a seagull, is far from it. They have special abilities like locking their wing in place to eliminate flapping which decreases how much energy their body spends allowing them to fly longer. They combine this with literally sleeping while flying and they can fly for days on end without stopping. They live at sea for potentially years at a time as well and generally mate for life. The two photographed in this collection are mates, very affectionate as well, and you can see their baby towards the end.
There is a monk seal featured here, toward the end
