Spain- Las Fallas
Each spring, the city of Valencia pauses for Las Fallas, a week-long festival rooted in seasonal transition and collective renewal. What began as a tradition of clearing workshops at the end of winter has evolved into a city-wide event, where neighborhoods collaborate throughout the year to construct large-scale sculptural works known as fallas.
These structures, often political or satirical in nature, fill the streets as focal points for procession, gathering, and celebration. After days of public display and ceremony, they are intentionally burned, marking the conclusion of the festival. The photographs observe this cycle — from creation to culmination — where craftsmanship, community, and impermanence are brought together through shared ritual.
