There is actually no way to tell what sex a bald eagle is, even the size difference is not consistent. Regardless, the bird on the left is a juvenile bald eagle, and an adult on the right. The juvenile is probably only a year or two old at best. You can gauge the age of juveniles based off their colors. Around 3 their feathers begin to color more similar to an adult, around 4 they start to look like an adult but still have discoloration making them almost appear dirty, and after five they have the colors you see on the adult here. Of course that is more of a rule of thumb as they all molt differently and you'll see some really breathtaking juveniles out there. No two juveniles look the same, but every adult looks the same.
